CD-R is a type of CD that is purchased blank and used to copy information onto, in the case of in car audio systems the CD-R discs are used to copy songs. These songs can be straight copies of another CD or they can be MP3 files, for the MP3 files you will need an in car audio system that supports MP3 tracks. CD-R discs are very cheap to buy so are great for in car use, you can use them to store your MP3's or you can copy CD's so that you don't have to keep changing CD's.
There is also another type of CD-R disc which is called the CD-RW disc, standard CD-R discs can only be copied onto once but CD-RW discs can be used to copy songs over and over again so are great if you wish to change the songs on the CD. CD-RW do cost more but they offer good value as they can be used more than once, if you are just copying a CD and wish to keep the copy then CD-R is better though as they are cheaper.
So if you want to play CD-R CD's in the car audio system you are buying then you need to make sure that it supports CD-R discs, most car audio systems that support CD-R also support CD-RW discs but make sure if you plan on using them.
